The beginning: connecting water

Telaqua was founded in 2018 in Aix-en-Provence by Sébastien Demech, Nicolas Cavalier, and Nicolas Carvallo with a simple idea: to connect irrigation networks to better understand water usage.

Nicolas Carvallo has always seen this firsthand through his father, an irrigation system designer: no matter how excellent a system you build, if you don’t have the data needed to operate and maintain it, you won’t be able to optimize its irrigation to 100%.

In order to resolve this, Telaqua develop a first solution that combines IoT sensors and a software platform, allowing farmers to monitor pressure, flow, and irrigation remotely via the IrrigEasy app.

From the outset, the founders know that the opportunity is much greater. They are not just building a tool; they are building the future digital infrastructure for agricultural water.

2019–2021

From farms to networks

The first deployments connect farms in Europe, South America, and Africa.

Each installation generates something the industry has never had before: operational data on actual irrigation networks.

The fundraising that accelerates the vision

In 2022, Telaqua raised €4 million to accelerate its development and strengthen its R&D.

The funding round included:

CMA CGM, a global leader in maritime logistics.

This funding allows for the acceleration of the platform's internationalization and the launch of advanced work on hydraulic modeling and artificial intelligence.

It is during this period that Telaqua's key technology is born:

the Water Twin. A digital twin capable of modeling the actual operation of an irrigation network.

International deployment

Telaqua continues its international expansion, particularly in West Africa, where water management becomes a major issue for food security.

Each new connected network enriches the model.

The platform no longer just observes irrigation; it begins to understand the overall functioning of hydraulic systems.

2024

The strategic pivot: becoming the universal platform

In 2024, Telaqua makes a structural decision:

to abandon sensor manufacturing to focus on its greatest added value: becoming a universal software platform.

Instead of imposing proprietary hardware, Telaqua becomes agnostic and compatible with all market equipment.

This pivot transforms the startup into an open digital infrastructure for global irrigation. Now, the platform can connect any hardware (sensor, pump, valve, ...) from any manufacturer.

A neutral software layer finally emerges in the industry.

The era of water data

With deployments in over 10 countries and thousands of connected devices, Telaqua begins to build one of the richest databases in the world on agricultural hydraulic networks.

Irrigation networks become observable as living systems with over 400,000 hours of scheduled irrigation per month.

2026

The launch of the Water Operating System

Telaqua officially launches the Water Operating System (Water OS).

More than just software, the Water OS is the digital brain of irrigation networks. Thanks to the Water OS, the system can:

rebuild hydraulic networks in real-time

automatically detect anomalies

predict failures

dynamically optimize irrigation.

For operators and industries, this means an immediate reduction in operational costs of 15 to 20% from the first season, thanks to the optimization of water, energy, and maintenance.

But the impact goes further: the Water OS also enables complete traceability of water usage, meeting the growing demands of large corporations and states regarding ESG reporting, water sovereignty, and food security.
